Sermon

This morning I will take my text from Matthew the 3rd chapter. 1). “In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2.) And saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3). For it was he of whom it was said by the prophet Isaiah, The voice which cries in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight.” This is the first through third verse.

We have now come into that period of time in which the churches of the world consider the Advent. It is the time in which we look forward to the celebration of the birth of the Master Jesus, the Lord Jesus. It is the time when we have always looked to it as a symbol of the celebration of, like we would a birthday of a person here on earth. This is also a holy time in our memory because it is the fulfillment of the prophecy and not only the fulfillment of a prophecy but it is a celebration of the great event which brought our Lord here in a physical body that He might bring about and bring the teachings for this Age. And when I use the words ‘bring about’ I’m referring to the actual manifestation of them on the physical plane.

Advent means the coming of the Master, it’s the celebration of this. It is the fulfillment of the prophesies of the prophets of old and it was throughout the Hebrew Empire that they were too looking for the Messiah to come. Today we now tread the age-old path which has happened many times before only in a different way with a different teacher coming, but we tread that path now of Advent in a very realistic manner.

This is no longer just a celebration of our Lord Jesus’ birth. It is a celebration of knowing that the reality that the Christ is coming to earth in greater reality than ever before but also that there will be another prophet, another great Master who will come and will be a visual and visible guidance unto the foot of mankind and who will bring forth greater truth and greater reality into the earth and help to guide its preachers, its teachers, in the way of life to all mankind.

Somehow in this earth we have been so wrapped up in the visibility of reality that we have failed to recognize that the invisibility of reality is actually that which we should be most concerned with. We think of the Master Jesus always as a divine person and put him someplace where we cannot reach him. He of his own words said to us, “For of all these things which I do so shall ye do also and greater than these.” He prophesied it, he said it would happen and I’m sure what he said will come true.

But there is something which we have missed in this and it’s a very important something. It has no name, it has no nomenclature. If I were to try to explain it I would say it would be the difference between a good priest and the Christos coming down within view. And the difference between these two beings in our mortal minds would see that something which we have missed. For the Master did come in a mortal body as our Prayer of the Brothers gives it, “God in great humility…” his vow, to give you the greatest of all power and wisdom through the Master. This didn’t happen just as a gift alone, but over many centuries this being was been prepared. But somehow we forget that the word ‘gift’ is not just given alone to a certain person.

For the Master said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions.” And he meant this. And each of those mansions has its gift both in heaven and in earth and if we would but look and search ourselves, we might find a small gift which we have, which we might give, which we might put upon the altar in service to the Lord and Master and the glory of our Father.

Somehow we miss in our maze of words the teachings of the testament, the teachings of metaphysics, the teachings of the great Teachers of the earth. We miss the great reality, that something which is not a heritage of our forefathers, that something which is not a heritage even of the Master Jesus. It is the heritage of a free born man. It is the gift of the reality of the Spirit of the living, longing vitality that comes with it. It is life. It is a thing that I see lacking in the knowledge of it. For one it is the great pearl. It is the pearl of great price. The reality of feeling Life. For within that Life it is the mystery of the Ages. Within it is all the spiritual sight of our Father. It carries deep within its kernel all the glory that he gifts, either in the spiritual body or in heaven or in the physical body of man. This is the answer, the discovery. Accept it. The world is crying out, ‘Show it’, and yet you pass it by.
